Nearly 3-months! I’m a bad blogger.
Well, it’s been a rollercoaster ride. It took nearly a month to get sorted out with the job, waiting for references to come through. Didn’t get a confirmed start date until 23rd October (when I was offered the job on 28th September).
In an ironic turn, the happiness of getting my start date confirmed was flipped on its head by the fact that the cat was killed later that day. I had noticed, not long after 4pm, that one of the panels of the fence between us and next-door was hit by something, hard, like someone had kicked a football at it. I though it was one of the neighbours grandchildren and took no more notice of it. Later on, the plumber came in saying that our neighbour wanted to have a word with us outside. We thought it was a bit strange but went out to see. They had come home and found the little cat laid out dead on their driveway.
I don’t think we’ll ever know what happened but she was probably run over on the road, made a last dash for home (with a mad rush of adrenaline) and just kept running or tried to jump the fence and didn’t make it. She would have broken her neck on impact with the fence and died quickly… certainly quicker than from the internal injuries she most likely had. Other than a little bit of blood round her nose, there was not a mark on her.
To say I was heartbroken would not be an overstatement. She was my constant companion for the last two and a half years. She was always around, always wanting to be near you. She was my friend and I’ll miss her always.
That was on a Friday. The following Monday my grandfather, who had been diagnosed with terminal, aggressive lung cancer in July, was taken into hospital with a chest infection. He died at 4am on Tuesday morning.
I started my job on the 1st November and on my first day I discovered that one of the County Councillors I used to work for (last time I worked for the Council) had died suddenly in August. I attended his memorial service on 16th November.
The job has been going great but I think I need to devote a whole post to that as it is now time to go downstairs and put up the Christmas decorations!!
