Happy And Glorious: 2017 edition

I’ve been keeping this “Jar of Good Stuff” thing going for 5-years now, it all started back in January 2013 – keeping notes of lovely stuff that has happened and allowing you to look back over the year and see what  you’ve done, when you might be thinking “what have I done with my year?”.IMG_8520

So, in chronological order, what did I do in 2017?

  • Returned to Hampshire County Council for the third time to do a 2-day-a-week placement with the surveyors in the County Farms team.  I stayed there until the end of May and met some of the loveliest people.
  • Started the #100HappyDays challenge for the second time on instagram.
  • Heading down to Stokeinteignhead for Diluki’s fabulous hen weekend, including Cabaret-themed dance class and a hot tub.  The house we stayed in was fantastic.
  • Calling in to see my Aunt and Uncle in Teignmouth for coffee on the way home.
  • Cinema Trip: taking the Winchester set of nieces & nephew to see Sing.
  • Cinema Trip: taking a mixed bag of nieces (two from one sister, one from another) to see La La Land.
  • Celebrating Diluki & Alan’s wedding in Bath.  Such a lovely day!  I took the motorhome up and stayed in a delightfully convenient caravan park just off the towpath towards Bristol.
  • I stayed out till 3am following the wedding, cycled into bath and back twice in two days (4.2miles each day) and remained functional through the following days!  The slight downside to this is that I realised that the no-caffiene, low sugar lifestyle was here to stay.
  • Cinema Trip: taking the Dorchester set of nieces & nephew to see Beauty and the Beast at the Plaza cinema in Dorchester – lovely independent cinema and a good price too!
  • Day-trip in the motorhome – picked up Rosie C from Brockenhurst station then we had a lovely walk in the New Forest, discussing Helen Lowe’s Wall of Night series of books amongst other things, and then cooking lunch in the motorhome.
  • Work placement with surveying firm Dalcour Maclaren in Cirencester.  Went up in the Motorhome and stayed in a delightful site less than 2-miles from the office so I could cycle in each day.  The cycling was tough as I’d not been doing that much in the run up to it, but again, the caffiene-free and low-sugar diet was continuing to work and I survived without a setback.
  • Diluki & Alan came to stay for a weekend of walking, eating, walking and much chatting (or watching the rugby!).
  • Throwing a 70th Birthday ‘Weekender’ with/for my Dad; 50 family and friends camping from Friday to Monday and 120 family and friends for a spit-roast lamb lunch.
  • Started a temp placement at Leightons Opticians in Totton – not only did I meet lovely people but it also allowed me to save up a big chunk of money to see me through my masters.
  • Cinema Trip: my first trip to the Showcase Cinema De Lux in Southampton to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2.  I’m spoilt for other cinemas now, the seats are so comfy.
  • Cinema Trip: pre-birthday celebration trip to see Wonder Woman with Rosie C.
  • Going to see Tenors Unlimited in Salisbury Playhouse, with the added bonus of my friend Charley’s son performing with them (with the rest of his school choir).
  • Work placement with Strutt and Parker in Salisbury.
  • Celebrating the wedding of the lovely Lucy and Dom!  Post-wedding celebration walk and lunch the next day – the weather may have been damp but the spirits were not!
  • Pre-uni catch-up with Rosie S
  • Started the MSc Rural Estate Management course at the Royal Agricultural University.  Met a lovely bunch of people too!
  • Freshers Ball – the final hurrah of the rather surreal but fun experience of doing freshers week (or freshers fortnight) again!  Discovering espresso martinis.
  • Cinema Trip: Thor Ragnarock.  It Ragnarocked!
  • Christmas Ball – glitter lips, cocktails, dancing till 2am!
  • Cinema Trip: Thor Ragnorock.  So good I saw it twice.
  • Surviving my first term at uni with good coursework grades and no debilitating setbacks after a full-on schedule of lectures, coursework, a ‘few’ nights out celebrating coursework being handed in, and a handful of colds and sore throats.
  • SNOW!  A proper snow day; woke up to a decent covering and it carried on snowing all day.  Went for a lovely walk into Cirencester with Gabrielle and Jess, found a delightful waffle house and a book shop that sells plush Moomins.
  • Christmas trip to see Diluki in Bath, always a delight to catch up.
  • Being blessed by the parking angel.  Phew!
  • Christmas in Twyford with my sister, her kids & the parents.
  • Cinema Trip: a boxing day trip to see The Last Jedi.

Bring it on 2018!!
